I’m amazed at how fast young kids can pick up new technologies. My boyfriend and I bought Wii for his daughter for her 6th birthday in January. She’s never had a video game system like this before. At first she of course had a little trouble aiming her controller at the correct spot on the TV. We had to help guide her hands and keep her aim level with the TV. She was able to pick it up really well after just a few times of playing her new Disney game. She’s almost beat the game and even came in first place at her first attempt at Mario Kart.
I had Nintendo when I was a kid too, a far less complicated version of Nintendo. I didn’t get it until I was maybe 10 years old. When I compare the current gaming technology to the technology of my childhood, the difference is amazing. I don’t think that at her age I would’ve been able to master the skills to play Wii as fast as she has mastered them, even receiving Nintendo as an older child. Are kids today just smarter? I believe this further illustrates the idea that today’s kids are more comfortable with technology, have less fear in using it, and are able to adapt to it more quickly.
We’re going to have to buy her a new Wii game soon once she beats her Disney game. The new game will probably be a little more complicated and require a little more skill so she can advance in her skills. It will be interesting to see the video game systems that are being played by her kids. The level of technology that will be in existence then is unimaginable.
